Where are you from? Forest Lake, Minnesota
What is your favorite brewing topic to talk to customers about? I like comparing it to cooking. You have your base ingredients and then you get to create something uniquely yours with different additions. A brewer’s creativity and understanding of his ingredients make a great beer.
What was your biggest brewing blunder? I made a black IPA, dry hopped, and transferred to a keg. I didn’t transfer cleanly causing my keg’s diptube to get clogged up with hops. It took me almost an hour, and lost two gallons before I got the keg to flow.
What movie have you watched the most times? I hate to admit it, but any Disney movie from the ‘90s. Thanks nostalgia.
What was your proudest moment in your fermentation history? It may sound silly, but my first batch was my proudest. It was then I realized I could make a pretty decent beer that people liked. I thought, ‘Good Job Chris, you oughta make more beer.’ So I have.
Why do you brew? I like introducing people to good beer. And I particularly like to create something unique and then find a way to create it better.
When did you start brewing? June of 2012, a Bavarian Hefeweizen.
What is your brewing system? I keep it simple. If extract, kettle and fermenters in the apartment. If grain, three tier system at my brother’s.
What is your favorite style of beer for drinking and for brewing? To drink, I like just about anything, Oktoberfests and Porters top my list but I have been leaning toward sours lately. To brew, I enjoy making tasty things, and I try to plan for more seasonal beers.
If you could share a beer with anyone throughout history, of even fictional, who would it be? Louis Pasteur. We couldn’t understand each other, but I would tell him, “great job on figuring out yeast, Louis.” And he would reply, “Merci.” *clink*
Where do you spend your non-brewing time? On the sportsball field. Playing or watching.
Who are your three favorite musicians/bands? Bon Iver, Rammstein, and Billy Joel. Variety is the spice of life or something like that.
